魯班尺:古代工匠訂製陽宅建築及廚灶神桌都會依照魯班尺的尺寸,將樑的高度、房的面積(長寬)、門的尺寸等都定位在吉字上。魯班尺俗稱為文公尺。紅字為吉,黑字為兇。長一尺四寸一分,以生老病死苦五字為基礎,劃分為八格,各有凶吉,依序為:財(錢財、才能)、病(商災病患、不利)、離(六親離散分離)、義(符合正義及道德規範,或有勸募行善)、官(官運)、劫(遭搶奪、脅迫)、害(罹患)、本(事物的本位或本體)。在風水學說中一般住家大門只裝本門與財門,義門乃寺觀學舍義聚之所可裝,大門用義字反會有災禍臨門,官門只有官府可裝,大門合官字將會與官方訟爭。一般常見的魯班尺又分為上下兩個部份:

上半部為文公尺:用於陽宅、神位、佛具尺寸。

下半部為丁蘭尺:多用於陰宅、祖龕。

魯班尺使用於陽宅建築,依其風水論之方向與氣象而設。主要用於神廳、廚灶、神桌、主人房與書房,將樑的高度、房的面積(長度與寬度)。建築物以隔牆內部實際尺寸為準,門窗亦以窗框內窗仁為準。有關神桌尺寸及實高最好依此魯班尺為宜。

八個字是:財、病、離、義、官、劫、害、本,在每一個字底下,又分為四小字,來區分吉凶意義。其八個字及附帶的小標格分別代表的吉凶含義如下:

財:吉,指錢財、才能。

財德:指在財、德善、功德方面有表現。

寶庫:比喻可得或儲藏珍貴物品。

六合:合和美滿。六合為天地四方。

迎福:迎接福。福為幸福、利益。

病:代表凶。指傷災病患 及不利等。

退財:損財、破財之意。

公事:多指因公家的事如貪污受賄及案件官司等。

牢執:指牢獄之災。

孤寡:指有孤獨寡居的行為。

離:代表凶,指六親離散分開。

長庫:古有監獄之說。

劫財:破耗及耗損財。

官鬼:指有官煞引起之事。

失脫:物品失落、人離散之意。

義:代表吉。指符合正義及道德規範,或有募捐行善等行為。

添丁:古時生男孩叫添丁。

益利:增加了財資利祿。

貴子:日後能顯貴的子嗣。

大吉:吉祥吉利。

官:代表吉,指有官運。

順科:順利通過考試而獲中。

橫財:意外之財。

進益:收益進益。

富貴:有財有勢。

劫:代表凶,意指遭搶奪、脅迫。

死別:即永別。

退口:指有孝服之事。

離鄉:背井離鄉。

財失:財物損失或丟失。

害:代表凶,禍患之意。

災至:災殃禍患到。

死絕:死得乾乾淨淨。

病臨:疾病來臨。

口舌:爭執爭吵。

本:代表吉,事物的本位或本體。

財至:即財到。

登科:考試被錄取。

進寶:招財進寶。

興旺:興盛旺盛。




認識魯班尺之用法 (上方)
門公尺計有八個字,分別為:財、病、離、義、官、劫、害、本。每字管一寸八分,用以建造陽宅寺廟及神靈桌位等,作為測量吉凶之準則。

門公尺字歌解曰:財字臨門納吉祥,外門招得外財良,若在中門常自有,家中福祿自榮昌。
病字臨門招疾病,外門呆鬼入中庭,若在中門逢此字,一年兩度送屍靈。
臨字臨門事不祥,夫婦思情兩事忙,朝夕家中常作鬧,時生禍端難對當。

論陰宅(墳墓)建造步數吉凶真訣:
